Rewa Horror: Woman Raped Under Guise of Exorcism for Years
Rewa, Madhya Pradesh: In a chilling case that exposes the dangers of blind faith and patriarchal exploitation, a 32-year-old woman from Rewa was allegedly raped repeatedly over the past three years by a distant relative who posed as a spiritual healer. The accused, a 45-year-old man, gained the trust of the woman’s family by claiming he could drive out evil spirits through rituals — a belief rooted deeply in rural superstition.
Superstition Used as a Weapon
The survivor was initially taken to the man in 2021 for "spiritual treatment" after falling ill. Instead, she was taken to a remote area and assaulted. Threats followed — if she dared to speak, he would kill her or release intimate videos. Paralyzed by fear and social stigma, she stayed silent, forced to endure repeated abuse under the guise of healing.
A Repeated Nightmare, A Courageous Stand
On July 19, 2025, she was once again sent to the accused. The same trauma was inflicted. But this time, something changed. Gathering strength, she disclosed everything to her husband. A complaint was filed at Baikunthpur police station, and the accused was arrested the next day.
Investigation and Hope for Justice
The survivor mentioned that the accused had once filmed the assault, but no such evidence has been recovered yet. Police are verifying details and exploring all leads. For now, the accused remains in custody.
Breaking the Cycle of Fear
This incident is a stark reminder of how fear and superstition can silence women — but also how courage can disrupt that silence. Her voice has set a legal process in motion, and perhaps, a conversation we can no longer avoid.
